Terror

I am terrified. Every credible expert told us not to expect results tonight. They told us it could be days or weeks before all the votes were counted. But when I look at the results — Trump’s seeming lead in Florida, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere; the Democrats’ failure to flip seats in Senate races thus far — I cannot help but imagine the worst. Four more years for Trump’s unhinged racial fantasies, inhumane immigration policies, and abuses of military and law enforcement. Four more years of Supreme Court seats turning over to ever-more-extreme Justices eager to gut our healthcare, voting rights, and regulatory agencies. Four more years of failing to act on climate change when we should have been acting decades ago. We can’t take it. I can’t take it. I couldn’t believe that our nation elected him the first time. Could we really do it again? I am terrified that we will.
